Auscript brings tape recordings online

31 August 2009

Auscript has introduced a cost-effective and practical offering to ensure reliable transcription from tapes – with the added benefit of online audio archiving.

Recognising that audio recordings can be just as valuable as a transcript in the right circumstances, but appreciating that tapes are notoriously difficult to safely store, transport or repair, Auscript has developed a user-friendly service for those still yet to make the switch to digital audio recording.

As of today, Auscript will waive the $25 cassette surcharge if you elect to have your cassette audio digitised.

This announcement follows the introduction of the Brisbane-based National Audio Delivery Centre in early July.

Digitisation of cassettes costs just over $1.20 per recorded minute of audio, and can lead to lower transcription costs via Auscript’s Transcript Xpress service.

Transcript Xpress securely links your digital recordings with local typists to deliver quality transcripts at an attractive price.

The Transcript Xpress service also functions as a short-term storage facility, meaning that for no additional cost you can access your recordings and transcripts online at any time for up to one year.

Auscript’s Online Production Manager, Sandra Higgins manages the day-to-day running of the Australian-operated service, overseeing a network of typists bound by the same strict quality and confidentiality agreements as all other Auscript production staff.

"TX [Transcript Xpress] has been a fantastic evolution for our clients and the Company. We can now offer a similar service level as our court services, but at a lower price and to a wider user-base," she said after Peter Wyatt, Auscript’s Managing Director announced the initiative today.

Sandra was quick to suggest that Auscript’s word-based charging model was ideal for those frustrated by labour hour abuse – a common complaint amongst users of other home-typed transcription services.

"Our standard per 100 words charging unit (known as a folio) means that when we are provided with good quality audio, the client pays for the words on the page, not the time it takes – or is said to take - to produce them. This affords our clients the ultimate in accountability as they only pay for the actual number of words typed," she said.
